“We don't hate nobody because of their color. We hate oppression!” - Bobby Seale
Thesis
The Black Panther Party was a critical force in the 1960s that changed America forever. The party was active from 1966 until 1982. The party was first established in 1966 in Oakland, California by Huey P. Newton. Their primary goal was to strengthen Blacks in society. Armed with knowledge and weapons they were on a mission to protect themselves and Black communities. They vowed to protect all from police brutality, social injustices and to give a sense of pride to a people that had been perpetually defeated. Although the Black Panther Party is often portrayed as a violent and negative group, they offered positive solutions to social problems.
How Did It Start?
African Americans weren't highly respected, whites saw them as people who weren't nothing.During the 1960s in United States racism was a major problem in the country. They taunted the blacks by hitting them, throwing stuff at them, and even kill them. Certain groups were made to fight back, and to have equal rights just like the white people. One of the anti segregation movements name was the Civil Rights Movement, the Civil Rights Movement fought for having rights for the black people in the United States. Huey P. Newton thought that making this party would only strengthen the movement and help the government to make changes, and give blacks the opportunity that the white community was taken away from them. The Black Panther Party fed off of the Civil Rights Movement, they didn't just protest on the racism in the world but they protected the black communities from harm.
